2 + 2 is 4 minus 1 that’s 3 quick maths.

Add on 23, that’s the years God has blessed me!

The countdown to my birthday over the last two weeks, the closing of 2017, has been jam-packed. Full of laughter, dancing and LOTS of food! After Christmas I didn’t think I could eat anymore, but I had to make room for the Black Ballad Brunch #BBBrunch

If you haven’t heard or come across Black Ballad (yet!), Black Ballad is a platform that inspires but most importantly empowers Black women in Britain to live their best life (this is their mission). Content on the platform ranges from health, education, beauty, careers and much much more; plus their events and discussions provides a space for Black Ballad members to meet, share and learn from each other. I strongly encourage Black women to join the Black Ballad community here.

Before tucking into my #BBBrunch pre-order of fried chicken & waffles with a ginger detox juice ??, we started the afternoon on bubbles & Black Girl Bingo. A fantastic icebreaker with my fellow brunchers to find out who had seen Hidden Figures, attended previous Black Ballad events or had written for the platform. You could feel the instant energy (Black Girl Magic) in the private room at The Folly, London Bridge.

Towards the close of #BBBrunch we had our own version of the Big Fat End of Year Quiz hosted by one of Black Ballad’s co-founders: Tobi Oderin. A few quiz questions proudly featured one of my close friend’s and half of the Nigerian Tapas duo that created Chuku’s (#chopchatchill and check them out!). To round up, Tobi then asked each of us to share our 2017 wins/key moments. It was a beautiful moment to listen and applaud all the women in the room and a great way to connect with amazing Black women. Finally, we were all entered into a raffle to win some Black-owned business goodies and of course, ya girl is blessed and won a Hyphen London notebook!!

To close out 2017 and crossover to 2018, I danced the night away at my church: Worship Tabernacle. Gospel group NewYe came to worship with us and really had me jumping in heels/milly rocking/getting down low!! My family had a great time and I even learnt a few new Nigerian praises…

The final countdown to my bday and the first few days of 2018 has been mostly getting back to a routine of waking up at 5.30am and into a routine of sharing and shaping Foundations to Flights. It’s nearly midnight and the end of my birthDAY, but I’ll be celebrating all through January! I’ve had some pretty good gifts (mostly practical, as I’ve been reminded I’m closer to 30 than 20 now!), Cardi B and Bruno have put out a fire remix & video and I can relax with another glass of bubbly as I’m working from home tomorrow ?
